Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the City of Rehoboth

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the City of Rehoboth Beach will not host a public tree lighting and sing-along this year. Although the City of Rehoboth Beach is limited in its capacity to hold the annual celebration, the holiday spirit has not been forgotten. Even without an official tree lighting, the Christmas tree will still be on display and lit throughout the holiday season. The City of Rehoboth Beach would like to thank Jerry Owens of Lewes for his generous donation of this year’s tree.

We encourage all visitors and citizens to enjoy the many forms of holiday spirit our hard-working businesses provide. Beginning on Black Friday, November 27, and continuing throughout the weekend, holiday music will accompany your walk through our bandstand plaza and its adjoining businesses. Join us for shopping, holiday music, and some annual Rehoboth Beach memories while you take photos next to our newly donated tree.

Come early and stay late. Please help us support local businesses, enjoy the start of the holiday season, and take a stroll along the boardwalk during the upcoming winter months.

In the wake of the most limiting social restrictio

In the wake of the most limiting social restrictions that many of us have ever known, businesses and communities are facing difficult and unprecedented decisions. Unfortunately, the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand is not an exception.

Ensuring the welfare of our audience as well as our performers is of particular importance when considering the possibility of promoting events that are in excess of safe attendee limits. The events at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand provide enormous opportunities for personal contact in close quarters. We cannot deny that our stage regularly serves as a popular gathering place for friends and families of all ages throughout the summer months, all of which place our visitors and performers in potentially dangerous and unavoidable proximity. As an open-air concert venue, we are unable to safely enforce social distancing while adequately providing an opportunity to gather for our performances. In addition, it is duly important for us to properly notify our performers within an acceptable amount of time who may have opportunities to perform at venues capable of meeting the current safety protocols.

The potential for additional uncertainty is too great, and it is our responsibility as a city to be mindful of the dangers that the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand may provide.

The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand Summer Concert Series has been a staple in the Rehoboth Beach community for over 55 years, and undoubtedly this decision will leave a void in the hearts of music lovers and concert-goers this summer. We thank you for the numerous years that we have been able to offer you free entertainment. Our hearts go out to all of the regular and future attendees in our neighboring communities affected by this announcement. However, we know that in making this difficult choice, we are ensuring the continued health and safety of our city and our patrons while making certain that future musical events will be possible on our stage.

It is with great disappointment that the Rehoboth

It is with great disappointment that the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand must announce the decision to cancel all performances through the Independence Day Weekend. Given the impact that our concerts have on the community, the visitors, the musical lovers, and the performers, this decision does not come easily.

Due to the current and continuing mandates in place to limit public gatherings, it is our duty to fully consider the potential risks inherent in our extremely popular events in Rehoboth Beach. The safety of all involved in providing concerts as well as those attending them is of the greatest importance during these difficult times. Fully examining the use of musical equipment, limited stage dimensions, entrance and exit areas, and audience/performer interactions, the potential for additional dangers is too great. The protection of our visitors as well as our performers is of the utmost importance to our city, and for this reason the City of Rehoboth Beach in its capacity to host events must take this course of action.

Thank you for your understanding and we encourage everyone to seek out the many forms of art and music opportunities still preserved around our area. Continue to support the living arts as we all work together to navigate through the challenges of this ongoing pandemic.

The official kickoff to the 2019 holiday season wi

The official kickoff to the 2019 holiday season will be the City of Rehoboth Beach's Tree Lighting and Sing-Along at the Bandstand on Friday, November 29th, from 6:30-7 pm. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Clear Space Theatre Company and officially illuminate the city’s most famous tree at 7pm. Song lyrics for the sing-along will be available to Cape Gazette subscribers in the ‘Tis the Season holiday guide insert coming out soon!
Everyone is invited to this cherished annual tradition where thousands of spectators gather to ring in the holiday spirit in downtown Rehoboth Beach. Come early and stay late. After the tree is lit, enjoy dinner with your friends and family and do your holiday shopping downtown!
